Kicking Off the Blog with Field Day 2025

On Saturday, June 28th, LCACA set up at Fairgrounds Park — affectionately known as “the duck pond” — for ARRL Summer Field Day. From early morning until the heat chased folks home around 4 PM, we were on the air, on display, and open to anyone curious about amateur radio.

We ran multiple stations from both outdoor setups and our communications trailers, including a GOTA (Get On The Air) station for visitors and newcomers. While the band conditions were less than ideal, spirits were high. Our power came strictly from batteries and generators, showcasing how ham radio thrives even off the grid. And yes — we deployed a full set of TimPipes to keep things grounded (literally and humorously).

Club members came out in force, and we were thrilled to see new faces — from curious kids and supportive parents to local hams exploring club options. A few visitors even mentioned plans to attend our next meeting, which makes the whole effort worth it.

Tours of our trailers and casual conversations with the public helped us share what we do: train, prepare, and stand ready to serve our community when needed. It’s serious work — but it’s also a lot of fun.

This Field Day wasn’t just about contacts. It was about connection.
